Peer Gynt is a composite character from the folk legends and legends of Scandinavia, whom the writer Henrik Ibsen endowed with the features of a typical Norwegian contemporary to him. Bold and charming at first, Peer Gynt does not care where to go and who to be. He easily embarks on an unknown journey, caring only that he does not encounter difficulties.
Captivating Solveig, a blond girl, is the embodiment of eternal femininity, the greatness of which the writer saw in the strength and depth of love, unconditional faith in the loved one, willingness to sacrifice for him.
In the character of Peer Gynt, Ibsen exposes people whose dreams and aspirations do not translate into action, into the struggle to achieve life's ideal. Solveig's infinite spiritual beauty and strength awaken in Per a deep realization of the loss of his life, his human self.
When Henrik Ibsen was preparing a play for the theater, he turned to Edvard Grieg: he attached great importance to his music. Many years later, the music written by Edvard Grieg became independent and world famous. “Morning”, “Anitra's Dance”, “In the Cave of the Mountain King”, “Solveig's Song” - musical pictures were so liked by the public that later the composer composed two suites for orchestra.
The force with which Grieg's music refracts through the prism of folk consciousness in these small pieces touches many aspects and phenomena of national life and expresses them with the classical simplicity that is characteristic of the best works of world musical art.
- In addition to the famous numbers from the two suites in our fairytale, the St Petersburg youth symphony orchestra Creato Symphony also performs the Overture to the play, depicting a village wedding in Hagstadt. And Solveig's Song and Lullaby will be performed by Anna Bondar, winner of international competitions and soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre. The reader is Olga Zakharova.
