New Year. St. Petersburg. “The Nutcracker” is a tradition that unites different generations of viewers, and we return to this fairy tale every winter. Everyone wants cozy holidays, beautiful lights, communication, hot mugs after cold snowfalls, and the expectation of a miracle, and anticipation of magic...

The Nutcracker recently celebrated its 130th anniversary. That is why Planetarium 1 together with musicians of the Creato Symphony orchestra, actress and director Vera Zoshchenko and artists Alexandra Konakova and Oleg Egorov united to present St. Petersburg children and families with a favorite fairy tale in a traditional reading and a modern frame.

The multimedia fairy tale performance “The Nutcracker” in Planetarium 1 is a Dragee Fairy telling us a fairy tale, live magical 3D scenery and charming cartoon characters that you will see on the world's largest projection dome. And, of course, the amazing music of Tchaikovsky performed by the orchestra. All this together gives us the opportunity to dive right into the heart of the fairy tale, to turn from a spectator into a participant in the story of the miraculous transformation of the characters and the journey into the marvelous world of “The Nutcracker”.

“Tradition is the passing of fire, not the worship of ashes” said composer Gustav Mahler. Our Nutcracker takes great care to honor the primary sources of Hoffmann and Tchaikovsky, using animation as an aid to immersion and perception rather than as an empty attraction.
